Dina is determined not to follow traditional parenting approaches. She does not want to shout at her children and wishes to treat them with respect. Every day, Dina sets the intention to stay calm, cool and collected, and not shout at her kids. At some point of the day her children fight, or won’t do their homework or are too loud. Dina feels triggered and her children’s behaviours push her buttons. Dina starts by nicely asking her children to cooperate, then she asks a few more times, then her patience runs out and she loses her cool, snaps and shouts. Even when she realizes what has happened, she can’t stop herself.
The aftermath for Dina is filled with regret and shame that she lost her cool. She feels she tries her best and her children still won’t cooperate. Dina wishes she had reacted differently and promises herself she’ll be different the next day. Again.
